And soon it will be spring

This weekend was a lot warmer than the last weeks and yesterday was the first day in March which, in Norway, is considered as the first month of spring. I like March, not only because I was born in March, but I like that the days are getting longer, the air is warmer and soon the forest starts living again. Birds are singing and the trees are budding, the snow is vanishing day by day and a walk in the forest is again possible.

Besides knitting a walk in the forest is my way to mindfulness, it has always been that way. The forest makes me breathe and my mind gets to rest from busy thoughts. Shinrin-Yoku (“forest bathing”) is used in Japan as therapeutic relaxation. It works, if I am stressed or in a bad temper a walk in the forest makes me feel much better, it gives you new energy. You should try it, if you live in the city a walk in the park will have the same effect!

Colors of spring

This winter felt like an eternity. It was cold, dark and too much snow. The winter was beautiful, yes, but every thing that lasts too long becomes kind of boring.

In Norway spring normally starts in April, but the snow kept coming and the winter seemed endless. Finally in May the temperature rised and the snow started to melt. And then everything happened in a higher speed than I am used to, nature exploded.

Just the other day I took a little hike in the little forest just outside my garden and the blueberry flowers were in full bloom. So spring arrived late this year, but now everything is just fine.

Sound of spring

Walking
through the woods
as many times before

Something is different

Winter
cold and quiet
has finally left

Sound of spring

Birds chattering
all around
such a happy feeling

Anemone hepatica (pink edition)

Spring is here and the first flowers are blooming here in Norway. Today I took a walk by the seaside along the Oslo fjord and found a lot of Anemone hepatica in the forest. The color of the flowers varies from white, all shades of blue to pink. The color variation is both due toe variation in the soil and genetics. Todays shot is of the pink variant of the flower.

March

My favorite month of the year. Finally the snow is melting and soon trees are budding and spring flowers will bloom. Nature comes to life again.

Spring

Strange times theses days with covid-19 ruling our lives. Working remote and not seing any of our friends as often as we used to makes our life quite different from a normal everyday life. Luckily nature goes on with normal procedures like spring. This year I think I have enjoyed spring more than ever due to the situation with the earlier mentioned virus. In nature I can relax and do some of the things I love the most, like photography and walk my dog, Charlie Brown. My earlier mentioned trip to China was cancelled due to the corona-situation, så there will be no post from China. Maybe later, I am not sure because so much has changed since February.

It has been a long time since I posted and a long time since I posted macro-shots, but todays post I have a few macro shots to share together with my beloved sheltie; Charlie Brown 🙂

The first spring flower in Norway is often Anemone hepatica, it normally is blue or white but sometimes you can find pink versions too.

Anemone nemorosa comes a few weeks later than Anemone hepatica but is just as beautiful. My sheltie, Charlie, always look after squirrels when we go for forest walks.
